Murphy Brown is a comedy TV series that aired in the late 1980s up until the late 90s. The show follows the life and career of Murphy Brown, a tough and independent journalist who runs a news magazine show. Season 1 episode 2 is titled Devil With a Blue Dress On.

The episode revolves around Murphy and her team preparing for a live TV interview with the Governor of Florida, who is tipped to be a potential Republican presidential candidate. Murphy is excited to host the interview but is also a bit nervous considering the magnitude of the task ahead of her. She enlists the help of her colleagues, Miles, Corky, and Frank, to ensure that the interview runs smoothly.

As the team preps for the interview, they learn that the Governor's team has some reservations about doing the interview live. This throws Murphy off-guard, and she begins to worry that they may cancel the interview altogether. Murphy later learns that the Governor's team is mainly concerned about her outfit. She was planning on wearing a blue dress, which they deem inappropriate for the interview.

Murphy refuses to change her outfit and argues that the Governor's team is trying to bully her. She insists that she will wear the blue dress during the interview, come what may. Murphy's determination to wear the dress has her team worried that the interview may not happen. They encourage her to compromise, but Murphy refuses to budge.

Later, Murphy discovers that the Governor's team had been secretly feeding Corky information about the Governor, hoping to sway her opinion on the interview. Corky, who is getting a little overexcited with the access she's been granted, reveals too much to Murphy, who gets angry and cancels the interview.

Meanwhile, Frank is having some trouble at his new job, working for the National Security Council. He is tasked with writing a speech for the President, but all of his ideas come off as too radical. Frank eventually realizes that he is not cut out for the job and resigns.

The episode ends with Murphy and her team watching the Governor's interview on TV, which had been rescheduled to another network, and they see that the Governor indeed won't have a female host, but his communications director is wearing the same blue dress that Murphy originally wanted to wear. The team laughs and jokes about it, but Murphy is left feeling a little dejected.

Overall, the episode is a great example of the sharp writing and wry humor that set Murphy Brown apart from other sitcoms of its time. Murphy's stubbornness in refusing to change her outfit shows her independent streak and sets the tone for the show's feminist themes. The episode also touches on the nuances of media and politics and the lengths people will go to control their image. It's a fun, well-written episode that's a must-see for fans of the series.
