In Murder, She Wrote season 4 episode 4 titled "Old Habits Die Hard," Jessica Fletcher finds herself investigating a murder that takes place during a reunion of her alma mater, Manhattan's Manhattan Prep. She is excited to reconnect with her old classmates after many years but her excitement soon fades away when one of her former schoolmates is killed.
The victim, Jonathan Hawley, was the assistant headmaster of the school and was well-liked by students and teachers alike. However, it soon becomes clear that he didn't just have admirers. There were people who didn't like him and some who even wished him dead. Jessica soon learns that Jonathan was not exactly the man everyone thought he was. He had secrets and had done things in the past that he didn't want anyone to know about.
Jessica uses her investigative skills and knowledge of human nature to try to uncover the killer. She begins to piece together the events leading up to the murder and discovers that everyone in the reunion has a motive and an opportunity to commit the crime. Even her own classmates that she thought she knew so well are not above suspicion.
As Jessica digs deeper into the case, she realizes that the murder is connected to the past and that someone may be seeking revenge after all these years. But who could it be? The list of suspects keeps growing as she uncovers new evidence. Eventually, she comes to the conclusion that the killer is someone very close to her, someone she had never suspected.
As always, Jessica's intelligence and determination lead her to uncover the truth behind the murder. She exposes the killer and reveals the motive behind the crime. In the end, justice is served but at a great cost. Jessica has lost someone she cared about and knows that there will always be old habits that die hard.
