Jessica Fletcher is back with another intriguing mystery to solve in the third season of Murder, She Wrote. In the fourth episode, One White Rose for Death, Jessica finds herself in the middle of a murder investigation when the owner of a preeminent publishing house, Roger Stanford, is found dead in his office. Jessica's close friend, Attorney Adam Keats, is the prime suspect in the case and he looks to her to exonerate him.
The investigation takes Jessica to New York City where she meets with the head of the publishing house, Lionel Jeffries. Jeffries reveals that Stanford had a tense relationship with his business partner and ex-wife, Stephanie. This leaves both as suspects in the investigation. Furthermore, Jeffries hints that there might be some inside information that has been compromised.
The plot thickens when Jessica discovers that Keats had a motive for committing the crime - he was about to lose his job when the publishing house was sold off to a large multinational company. Jessica is convinced that her friend is innocent and sets out to find evidence to prove it. Her investigation takes her to the offices of a rival publishing house, where she meets the assistant of the group's CEO, Sandra Wells.
Jessica's sleuthing uncovers a vital clue: a white rose left by the killer at the scene of the crime. She finds evidence at the rival publishing house that suggests a connection between Stanford's death and Wells' employer. Determined to solve the mystery, Jessica sets a trap for the killer. She meets with Wells and throws her off-track by revealing a piece of information that Jessica knows is false. With this ploy, Jessica is able to provoke the killer to reveal themselves - and in a nail-biting finale, she exposes the murderer behind Stanford's death.
One White Rose for Death is a mystery that will keep you guessing throughout the episode. With its rapid pacing and intricate plot, this is an episode that is not to be missed. Jessica Fletcher's wit and intelligence make for a compelling detective and as always, Angela Lansbury's performance is top-notch. The episode leaves audiences on the edge of their seat until the final moments.
