In this episode, entitled If A Body Meet A Body, Jessica travels to Washington, D.C., to attend the funeral of a friend who worked at the Smithsonian Institution. While there, she becomes embroiled in a murder investigation when a body is discovered in a museum exhibit.
The victim is identified as Dr. Avery Stone, a renowned archaeologist who had been working on a controversial dig in the Middle East. Jessica quickly realizes that there are plenty of suspects, as Dr. Stone had made many enemies due to his outspoken views. One of the prime suspects is Dr. Stone's former assistant, who had quit in protest over his methods.
As Jessica investigates, she discovers that Dr. Stone had uncovered a priceless artifact during his dig, which had disappeared shortly before his death. She also learns that one of Dr. Stone's colleagues had been accused of stealing artifacts in the past, though he denies any involvement in this case.
Complicating matters further is the fact that the police detective in charge of the case, Lt. Novak, seems to have it out for Jessica. He accuses her of meddling and obstructing justice, despite her insistence that she is only trying to help.
As the investigation continues, Jessica narrows in on the culprit and discovers that the motive for Dr. Stone's murder was not what she initially suspected. In a dramatic climax, she brings the killer to justice and uncovers a plot that goes deeper than anyone could have imagined.
