In Murder, She Wrote season 2 episode 15 "Powder Keg," Jessica Fletcher (Angela Lansbury) travels to the small town of Dixon Mills to visit her old friend Sam Booth (Gene Barry). Sam is the owner of a local newspaper and has recently been investigating the town's mayor, Martin Ross (Daniel J. Travanti), for corruption.
However, things take a dark turn when Sam is killed in an explosion while working in his print shop. Jessica, who was nearby at the time of the explosion, takes it upon herself to help the local sheriff, Sheriff Mitchell (David Ackroyd), investigate the case.
As they delve deeper, they discover that there are many people who had a motive to kill Sam. From a rival newspaper owner to the mayor himself, it seems like everyone had a reason to want Sam out of the picture.
In the midst of their investigation, Jessica also finds herself being courted by two local men - one of whom is the mayor's son, and the other is a wealthy businessman. As she navigates these relationships and tries to uncover the truth about Sam's death, Jessica must also deal with the threat of more violence erupting in the town.
As the investigation heats up, tensions rise and secrets are revealed, leading to a shocking conclusion that Jessica could never have predicted.
