In the Murder, She Wrote season 10 episode 11, titled "Northern Explosion," Jessica takes a trip to Alaska to visit her dear old friend, Eudora McVeigh, who lives in a remote fishing village called Port Prince. She arrives during the annual salmon run, which is also a major source of income for the town. During her stay, she meets a cast of characters, including a smarmy fisherman named Nate, a grumpy innkeeper named Leo, and a young newlywed couple who seem slightly off-kilter.
Jessica soon learns that there is a hidden tension brewing in the town, as the fishermen are split into two factions over a proposed new cannery. On one side is Nate, who is eager for the cannery to be built and sees it as a way to bring more jobs and revenue to Port Prince. Opposing him is Leo, who is concerned about the environmental impact of the cannery and fears that it will disrupt the delicate ecosystem of the region. To make matters worse, there is a company scout in town who is evaluating the feasibility of building the cannery, and the tension is mounting as each side tries to sway him.
Then, tragedy strikes: a local fisherman is found dead in his boat, apparently killed by a bomb that was detonated remotely. The victim was part of Leo's faction, and immediately suspicion falls on Nate's group. Jessica is drawn into the investigation, as she tries to piece together the motive and opportunity behind the crime. She uncovers a web of secrets and lies that date back several years and involves a bitter feud between two families.
As Jessica delves deeper into the case, she realizes that she may be placing herself in danger. The killer is still at large, and they are willing to do whatever it takes to keep their secrets safe. With the help of the local police chief, Jessica races against time to solve the case before any more lives are lost.
"Northern Explosion" is a classic Murder, She Wrote episode that showcases all of the elements that made the show so popular in the 1980s and 1990s. The isolated and scenic location provides a rich backdrop for the story, while the complex web of relationships between the characters keeps the viewers guessing until the very end. As always, Angela Lansbury shines in her role as Jessica Fletcher, providing a strong and intelligent presence that is both relatable and engaging. Fans of the show will not be disappointed by this exciting and suspenseful episode.
