Jessica Fletcher is back at it again in season 1, episode 9 of Murder, She Wrote, titled "Death Takes a Curtain Call." In this mysterious episode, Jessica is in New York City to take in a Broadway show. She's accompanied by her friend, George Norton, who's looking forward to watching his wife, Barbara, perform in the show.
As the curtains rise and the play begins, the lead actor suddenly falls ill and must be replaced at the last second. To everyone's surprise, the replacement actor is none other than Edward Graham (played by David Wayne), a former actor who had been missing for years.
Jessica approaches Edward and finds him to be a bit odd. He tells her that he's been living in Europe all these years and has only just returned to the United States, and that he's been living as a monk in Spain. But Jessica senses that something isn't quite right with Edward and begins to investigate.
Meanwhile, the show goes on and things seem to be going well until one of the cast members, Monica Welles (played by Leslie Easterbrook) dies unexpectedly. Jessica believes it was no accident and begins to piece together clues that lead her to believe that someone is trying to sabotage the show.
As Jessica continues to investigate, she finds out that Edward isn't the only one with a dark past. Monica has a history of fraud and embezzlement, and another cast member, Stanley Sheppard (played by Ken Swofford), has a history of blackmail.
As the investigation continues, Jessica finds herself in danger when someone tries to silence her permanently. But Jessica won't be intimidated and continues to search for the truth.
In the end, Jessica solves the mystery and uncovers the killer's dark motives. "Death Takes a Curtain Call" is a thrilling episode that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end.
