Jessica Fletcher heads down to Florida to stay with her old friend and fellow author, Abigail Austin. But upon arrival, she finds her dear friend has been murdered in what appears to be a robbery gone wrong. Distraught and determined to find her killer, Jessica begins to investigate with the help of Abigail’s assistant, Donna.
As she looks into Abigail's life, Jessica discovers that Abigail had been funding a documentary about a local magician, the Great Zara (played by the legendary actor, Milton Berle). Though the magician had a troubled past, he seemed genuinely interested in putting on a grand show for the small Florida town.
But as Jessica digs deeper, she discovers there may be more to the magician’s past than what he led on. With a dark history involving a dead member of his act and a potential cover-up, it becomes clear that the Great Zara may have more to do with Abigail’s murder than anyone would have guessed.
