In Murder Most Horrid season 1 episode 5 titled "Murder at Teatime," we follow the story of a seemingly ordinary couple, Harold and Muriel. Harold is a retired police officer who has settled into a comfortable life with his wife, enjoying their afternoon teas and tending to their garden. However, one afternoon, their peaceful routine is disrupted when Muriel begins to feel unwell after drinking her tea.
As she becomes progressively worse, Harold calls their neighbor, Dr. Goodheart, who declares Muriel dead. However, upon further examination, Dr. Goodheart suspects foul play and calls in his colleague, forensic pathologist Dr. Mark McCorkindale, to perform an autopsy.
As Dr. McCorkindale begins his investigation, he discovers that things are not quite as they seem. Harold has a history of mental illness, and it soon becomes clear that both he and Muriel have been leading double lives.
The investigation takes a number of twists and turns, as the detectives try to unpick the web of lies and deceit that surround the couple. Along the way, we meet a cast of eccentric characters, including a psychic medium who has a surprising connection to the case, and a retired police officer who holds a grudge against Harold.
