Mr. D is a Canadian sitcom about a lazy and incompetent high school teacher named Mr. Gerry Duncan. In season 3 episode 3, titled "Donor Dinner," Mr. D tries to impress a wealthy donor by hosting a fancy dinner at his home.
The episode begins with Mr. D learning that a wealthy benefactor, Mr. Jack Evans, is touring the school. Mr. D sees this as an opportunity to impress Mr. Evans and convince him to donate money to the school's sports program, which desperately needs funding.
Mr. D decides to coax Mr. Evans into donating by inviting him over for dinner. However, Mr. D's home is far from impressive, and he must find ways to make it appear more luxurious. He enlists the help of his colleague, Robert, and together they transform Mr. D's living room into a fancy dining area.
As Mr. D and Robert are putting the finishing touches on their decorations, Mr. Evans arrives. Mr. D is initially flustered and nervous, but he regains his confidence and begins to schmooze Mr. Evans with his charming personality and smooth talking.
After some small talk, Mr. D leads Mr. Evans to the dining room where he has prepared a gourmet meal, complete with a lobster dish. However, things quickly go awry when Mr. Evans has an allergic reaction to the seafood and begins to choke. Mr. D and Robert panic but ultimately manage to save Mr. Evans by performing the Heimlich maneuver.
Despite the accident, Mr. Evans is impressed with Mr. D's quick thinking and willingness to save his life. He ends up donating a sizable amount of money to the sports program, much to Mr. D's relief.
The episode also features a subplot involving Mr. D's ex-girlfriend, Lisa, who is now dating Robert. Mr. D is jealous of their relationship and tries to sabotage their date night by showing up with a surprise visit from Lisa's mother.
Overall, "Donor Dinner" is a hilarious episode that showcases Mr. D's desperation to secure funding for his school's sports program. The episode cleverly satirizes the lengths schools will go to secure funding and highlights the importance of having altruistic donors in education.
