In this episode of Mountain Men season 7, titled "Altitude," we follow several of the show's featured homesteaders and survivalists as they brave high altitudes and treacherous terrain in their ongoing quest for self-sufficiency.
First up is Tom Oar, who during his decades-long tenure as a Mountain Man has learned to live off the land and thrive in even the harshest conditions. Now in his seventies, Tom is still going strong and takes us along for the ride as he heads up into the mountains to track down a rogue bear that's been causing trouble in his neck of the woods.
Next, we follow Eustace Conway, longtime star of Mountain Men and owner of the Turtle Island preserve in North Carolina. Eustace's deep connection to the land and his fierce determination to live off the grid have made him a fan favorite over the years, and in this episode, he faces one of his toughest challenges yet as he attempts to navigate the treacherous peaks of the Blue Ridge Mountains. With his trusty horse by his side, Eustace takes us on a heart-pumping journey through some of the most rugged terrain in the country.
Meanwhile, in Alaska, we check in with Marty Meierotto, who has made a name for himself as one of the state's most tenacious and skilled trappers. In this episode, Marty battles bitter cold and isolation as he treks hundreds of miles to ensure his traplines are not only set correctly, but also baited with the most enticing morsels for the elusive prey he hopes to catch.
Finally, we catch up with Rich Lewis, a veteran outdoorsman and expert hunter who has spent his entire life in the mountains of Montana. Rich has seen it all, from wildfires and blizzards to a near-death attack from a grizzly bear. In this episode, he takes on a different sort of challenge as he tries his hand at high-altitude fishing, trekking into the backcountry with a small team to seek out remote lakes teeming with trout.
Throughout all of these storylines, the one constant is the indomitable spirit of these intrepid men (and woman, in the case of Eustace's protégé, Raleigh) as they push themselves to their physical and mental limits in pursuit of self-reliance and a deep connection to the natural world around them. As always, Mountain Men season 7 is a thrilling and inspiring look at some of the toughest and most resilient people on the planet.
