In season 7 episode 3 of Mountain Men, entitled "Labor Pains," viewers are taken on a journey through the harsh and unforgiving terrain of America's wilderness. The episode focuses on the daily lives of several seasoned outdoorsmen and their struggles as they attempt to carve out a subsistence living in some of the country's wildest and most remote areas.
One of the primary storylines follows Marty, a veteran mountain man who has made his living trapping and selling furs for over 30 years. In this episode, Marty faces a particularly challenging situation when he discovers that one of his traplines has been raided by a pack of wolves. Left without any way to provide food for himself and his family, Marty must resort to desperate measures to stay afloat.
Meanwhile, up in Alaska, Tom battles a different type of predator when he finds that his fish cache has been raided by a mischievous bear. With winter fast approaching and food supplies running low, Tom must figure out a way to keep the pesky bear at bay, or risk losing his entire food source.
Elsewhere in the mountains, Morgan faces his own set of challenges as he attempts to build a new trapline in an area that is notoriously difficult to navigate. With steep mountain ridges, deep valleys, and dense foliage blocking his path at every turn, Morgan must summon all of his skills and experience to create a viable trapline.
Back in Montana, Rich spends his days hauling lumber out of the forest to build a new cabin for himself and his growing family. But as his wife's due date approaches, Rich finds himself facing a new kind of challenge – the labor pains of childbirth. With no hospital nearby, Rich must rely on his own knowledge of midwifery to deliver his child safely into the world.
Finally, in the remote wilderness of North Carolina, Eustace battles to keep his homestead running smoothly in the face of a relentless onslaught of obstacles. From broken chainsaws to leaking roofs, Eustace works tirelessly to keep his property up and running, never losing sight of the ultimate goal – to live off the land in harmony with nature.
Throughout the episode, viewers are treated to stunning vistas of America's wilderness, as well as an up-close look at the daily struggles of the country's most rugged and resilient individuals. With no modern conveniences to rely on, these mountain men must rely on their own skills and wits to survive in one of the harshest environments on earth. Whether battling predators, navigating treacherous terrain, or dealing with the joys and pains of family life, these men embody the true spirit of the American frontier.
