Detective Angie Flynn and her team are back for another episode of Motive. In season three, episode two, titled "Calling the Shots," the team is called to investigate a murder at a shooting range.
The victim is identified as a local lawyer, Andrew Haynes. His body is found in the shooting range, with several gunshot wounds to the chest. Flynn and her partner, Detective Brian Lucas, start investigating the crime scene and try to gather as much evidence as possible.
Their first lead comes from a man, Matthew Webb, who claims to have witnessed the murder. Matthew tells the detectives that he saw a man with a gun walking away from the shooting range and getting into a car. He also adds that he recognized the car, as it belongs to his neighbor, Brad Lacey.
Flynn and Lucas quickly go to question Brad Lacey, who is a successful businessman. However, Brad denies being present at the shooting range at the time of the murder. He claims that he was with his wife, Karen, at a charity event. Karen confirms Brad's alibi, but there is still something fishy about their story.
Flynn and Lucas continue their investigation and soon find out that Andrew Haynes was actually representing a man, Tony Moreno, who is suing Brad Lacey's company for environmental damages. This revelation piques Flynn's interest, and she takes a closer look at Brad's company.
As the investigation unfolds, the detectives find several pieces of evidence that link Brad to the murder. They discover that Brad had hired a hitman to kill Andrew Haynes, and that Matthew Webb was actually the hitman's associate.
The detectives also learn that Karen Lacey was involved in the murder plot. Karen had discovered that her husband was having an affair with Andrew's wife, and she used this as a motive to get Andrew killed.
After gathering enough evidence to make an arrest, Flynn and her team move in to take Brad and Karen into custody. The episode ends with the duo being taken away in handcuffs, and justice being served for the murder of Andrew Haynes.
Overall, "Calling the Shots" is an intense and engaging episode of Motive. It keeps the viewers on the edge of their seats as Flynn and Lucas piece together the clues to solve the crime. The episode also explores the theme of revenge, and how it can lead people to commit heinous acts. With its solid writing and impressive performances from the cast, "Calling the Shots" is definitely one of the standout episodes of season three.
