In Seirei no Moribito season 1 episode 4 titled Torogai's Letter, Balsa and Chagum continue their journey to the north with Tanda and Torogai. As they travel deeper into the forest, they come across a village that is being terrorized by a monster called the Ra Runga. The villagers are desperate for help, and Balsa offers her services to stop the creature.
Meanwhile, Torogai receives a letter from an old friend named Gakai, who used to be a great warrior but has grown old and weak. Gakai's village is also being threatened by the Ra Runga, and he pleads with Torogai to come and help them. Torogai feels torn between her duty to protect Chagum and her loyalty to her friend, but ultimately decides to leave Balsa and the others and go help Gakai.
As Torogai makes her way to the village, she reminisces about her past and her relationship with Gakai. She remembers the time when they fought alongside each other and how Gakai was always the one to take risks and charge into battle. Torogai, on the other hand, was more cautious and thoughtful, always weighing the risks before making a move. Despite their differences in personality, they had a deep bond of trust and respect.
When Torogai arrives at Gakai's village, she finds that he and the other warriors are unable to defeat the Ra Runga. The creature is too strong and too fast, and they haven't been able to land a single blow on it. Torogai studies the monster's movements and notices a pattern in its attacks. She realizes that the Ra Runga is blind and is using a form of echolocation to sense its surroundings. She comes up with a plan to defeat it by using her knowledge of sound and vibration.
To execute her plan, Torogai has to enlist the help of the villagers and teach them how to create a specific type of sound using the materials they have on hand. She explains to them that the sound will disrupt the Ra Runga's echolocation and temporarily confuse the creature, giving them a chance to strike. The villagers are hesitant at first, but Torogai's conviction and experience inspire them to trust her.
As they prepare for the final battle, Torogai reflects on the importance of trust and loyalty in a warrior's life. She remembers how she and Gakai had always been there for each other in battle, and how their bond had been forged through years of fighting side by side. Even though they had grown old and weak, their connection was still strong, and Torogai realized that it was that connection that gave her the strength to face whatever challenges lay ahead.
When the Ra Runga finally attacks, Torogai's plan works perfectly. The villagers create the sound, and the Ra Runga is temporarily disoriented. Gakai leads the charge and lands a decisive blow on the creature, killing it instantly. The villagers rejoice and celebrate their victory, and Torogai feels a sense of satisfaction and pride in what they have accomplished.
As Torogai prepares to leave the village and rejoin Balsa and the others, she realizes how much she has missed the camaraderie of being part of a team. She is grateful for the opportunity to have helped her friend and to have made a difference in the lives of the villagers. She knows that her journey with Balsa and Chagum is far from over, but she also knows that she will always carry the memories of her time in the village with her as a reminder of the power of trust, loyalty, and friendship.
