Monthly Girls' Nozaki-kun is a romantic-comedy anime series that follows the daily life of high school student Chiyo Sakura as she tries to confess her love to her crush, Umetarou Nozaki. Nozaki-kun is the author of a popular shojo manga, and when Chiyo confesses her feelings to him, he mistakes her as a fan of his work and gives her an autograph in return. Realizing the misunderstanding, Chiyo decides to become Nozaki's manga assistant so she can spend more time with him and get to know him better.
The cast of Monthly Girls' Nozaki-kun is filled with quirky and lovable characters, each with their own unique personalities and quirks. Nozaki-kun himself is a dense but hardworking manga artist who prefers to base his characters on real people, often dragging his friends and classmates into his imaginative and sometimes ridiculous storylines.
Chiyo, despite being small in stature, is a smart and determined girl who is dedicated to helping Nozaki-kun with his manga. She often finds herself in hilarious situations, whether she's trying to come up with new ideas for the manga or helping Nozaki-kun with research for his work.
Other characters in the series include Mikoto Mikoshiba, a popular classmate known as the "Prince of the School," who has a secret obsession with Nozaki-kun's manga and ends up becoming one of his inspirations for a character. There's also Yuu Kashima, a charming and popular senior who is the object of affection for many of the girls in school, and Hori Masayuki, the strict but kind captain of the drama club who is forced to work with Nozaki-kun on his manga.
Throughout the series, the characters learn more about themselves and their relationships with each other, often leading to hilarious misunderstandings and heartwarming moments. Despite being a romantic-comedy, Monthly Girls' Nozaki-kun also delves into the process of manga creation, offering a unique behind-the-scenes look at the industry and the creative process.
The animation and voice acting in Monthly Girls' Nozaki-kun are both top-notch, with Yuichi Nakamura bringing a dry wit and deadpan delivery to Nozaki-kun's character, and Ari Ozawa providing a sweet but determined voice to Chiyo. The rest of the cast also shines, each delivering their own comedic and heartfelt performances.
Overall, Monthly Girls' Nozaki-kun is a charming and hilarious anime series that offers a fresh take on the romantic-comedy genre. With a lovable cast of characters and witty writing, it's easy to see why it has become a fan favorite since its release in 2014.
