- Not Rated
- July 13, 2013
After a cliffhanger in the previous episode, Monogatari Second Season's "Tsubasa Tiger, Part 2" picks up where it left off. Koyomi Araragi, the show's protagonist, is searching for his classmate Tsubasa Hanekawa, who has gone missing. He knows that she has a supernatural side, but he doesn't know the full extent of her powers.
In this episode, we get a closer look at the situation that led to Tsubasa's disappearance. She has been possessed by a supernatural entity known as the "Tiger," which has caused her to have a split personality. When Tsubasa is in her normal state, she is kind, studious, and polite. But when the Tiger takes over, she becomes violent and unpredictable. We see a flashback of Tsubasa's childhood, where she was forced to suppress her emotions in order to fit in with her peers. This emotional suppression ultimately led to the creation of the Tiger.
As Koyomi searches for Tsubasa, he encounters a mysterious woman named Izuko Gaen, who seems to know more about the situation than she's letting on. Izuko is one of the show's recurring characters, and her involvement in this case sets off alarm bells for Koyomi. He can't shake the feeling that there's more at play than just a possessed classmate.
Throughout the episode, we also see glimpses of Koyomi's relationships with other characters from the series. There's a moment where he runs into his sister Tsukihi, who is also dealing with supernatural troubles of her own. There's also a scene where Koyomi speaks with his former classmate Suruga Kanbaru, who is struggling with her own desires and ambitions.
As Koyomi gets closer to the truth behind Tsubasa's possession, we see how much this case is taking a toll on him. He's not just concerned about Tsubasa's well-being, but he's also grappling with his own feelings of guilt and responsibility. He's spent the previous episode and a half trying to figure out what's going on with Tsubasa, but now he's realizing that he might not be able to save her on his own.
The episode ends with Koyomi coming face-to-face with the Tiger itself, and we're left wondering what will happen next. Will Koyomi be able to defeat the Tiger and save Tsubasa? Or will he need to call on other characters from the series to help him out? We'll have to wait and see in the next installment of Monogatari Second Season.
