Mr. Monk and his assistant Natalie are on a case involving the death of a billionaire, Harold Gumbal. The wealthy man was killed by an apparent suicide, but Mr. Monk is convinced that it was murder. Despite the initial reluctance of the police department, Monk and Natalie start investigating.
As they begin to dig into Gumbal's life, they find that he had a lot of enemies. His wife despised him and was planning to divorce him, and his son was a gambling addict who owed millions of dollars to shady characters. In addition, Gumbal's business partner was not happy with the direction of the company.
The investigation takes a turn when they uncover evidence that suggests Gumbal may not have been who he claimed to be. Is it possible that Gumbal faked his own death to start a new life?
Monk and Natalie continue to uncover more secrets that lead them to a shocking discovery. Along the way, Mr. Monk is his usual quirky self, with his odd phobias and obsessive-compulsive tendencies bringing comic relief to the serious murder investigation.
As the case eventually picks up pace and comes to its conclusion, Mr. Monk finally solves the case in his unique and overlooked perspective. The show ends on a high note, with Mr. Monk cracking another seemingly impenetrable case and saving the day.
