Mr. Monk and the T.V. Star is the twelfth episode of the second season of the American detective television series Monk. The show revolved around the titular character Adrian Monk, an obsessive-compulsive homicide detective who was fired from the San Francisco Police Department due to his condition. In this episode, Monk is called to consult on the set of a popular television show after a murder occurs on set.

The episode begins with Monk attending a taping of the hit show "The Cooper Clan," a family sitcom that he despises, with his nurse and assistant Sharona Fleming. While Sharona enjoys the show and tries to convince Monk to act as an extra on set, Monk is agitated by all of the imperfections he sees on the set and in the actors' performances. When the leading actor, David Kurkjian, is shot and killed on set, Monk is called in to assist in the investigation.

The investigation begins with questioning the cast and crew, who all have their own motives and secrets. The producer, Harold Krenshaw, is having money problems and is concerned about getting cancelled, while the writer, Alice Brophy, harbors resentment towards the star actor. The director, Marty Eels, is a sleazy womanizer who is caught sleeping with one of the show's actresses. As Monk and the police investigate each suspect, more clues are uncovered, and the list of possible motives for the murder grows.

As Monk digs deeper, he realizes that the solution to the case may lie in the show's script. The script centers around a pregnant character, but as Monk reads through it, he realizes that there are inconsistencies with the storyline. In particular, he notices that a line referring to the father of the baby was changed at some point, and he becomes convinced that this is the key to solving the case.

In the end, Monk uncovers the identity of the killer and exposes their motive, but not before the killer attempts to take Monk's life as well. The episode ends with Monk recovering from his injuries and watching the show once again, albeit begrudgingly.

Overall, Mr. Monk and the T.V. Star is a thrilling episode that showcases the obsessive-compulsive detective's attention to detail and his ability to pick up on clues that others miss. The murder mystery is well-crafted, with plenty of twists and turns to keep viewers engaged, and the interactions between the characters offer some comic relief to balance out the darker elements of the show. Fans of the series will enjoy watching Monk navigate the world of television, as well as the usual challenges that come with his condition.
