Money Hungry was a reality competition show that aired for one season on VH1 in 2010. Hosted by Dan Cortese, the show featured twelve contestants competing to lose the most amount of weight and win a grand prize of $100,000. However, unlike other weight-loss shows, Money Hungry focused on the financial incentive for the participants, who were self-proclaimed "money hungry" individuals ready to do whatever it takes to win the cash prize.
Each episode featured two challenges. The first challenge was a physical one, such as running up stairs or completing an obstacle course, that would determine which player would have the power to create the pairs for the weigh-in. In the second challenge, the pairs of players would have to work together to burn the most calories in a given time period, like a spin class or a dance-off. The pair who burned the fewest calories would face elimination, and one player would be sent home.
The weigh-in each week was the tensest part of each episode. The players would stand on a giant scale, and the pair who had lost the least amount of weight or had actually gained weight were vulnerable for elimination. The power player for the week could pick someone from a pool of eliminated players to come back into the game, further complicating the strategy.
Throughout the series, the players were taken out of their comfort zones and faced with challenges that tested their commitment to losing weight and winning the prize money. The show also addressed some of the psychological issues associated with weight loss and money, like the relationship between self-worth and financial gain.
Overall, Money Hungry was a dramatic and intense competition show that combined the themes of weight loss and money to create a unique and entertaining viewing experience.
