In Modern Family season 3 episode 16, titled "Virgin Territory," the three families find themselves grappling with the topic of sex in their own unique ways.
The Dunphy family is at the heart of the episode, as both Haley and Alex are dealing with their own sexual experiences. Haley, the eldest Dunphy daughter, is preparing to have sex with her boyfriend Dylan for the first time. Meanwhile, Alex, the family's resident brainiac, is struggling with the fact that she's the only one in her group of friends who hasn't yet kissed a boy.
As the two sisters navigate their respective situations, their parents Phil and Claire are struggling to come to terms with their daughters growing up. Claire is especially anxious about Haley's first time, and tries to convince her husband that they need to have "the talk" with their daughter before it's too late.
Elsewhere, the Pritchett family is also dealing with some sexual tension of their own. When Jay and Gloria realize they haven't had sex in a while, they make plans for a romantic evening together. However, their plans are derailed when they're interrupted by a visit from Manny's father Javier, who has come to town unexpectedly.
Finally, the Tucker-Pritchett clan is dealing with an altogether different kind of sex talk. When Mitchell and Cameron discover Lily is being bullied at school because of her two dads, they decide to teach her about all different kinds of families to help her feel more confident. However, their lesson on the different animal mating habits quickly spirals out of control.
Throughout the episode, the three families come together to support each other through their various struggles. As always, the show's signature blend of comedy and heart shines through, making for a memorable and hilarious episode.
