Jay's dog Stella is a beloved member of the family, but she has been acting up lately and causing chaos around the house. Jay decides to hire a dog trainer to help correct Stella's behavior, but his wife Gloria is skeptical and wants to handle the situation on her own. Meanwhile, Cameron and Mitchell attend a charity auction and end up bidding on a private tour of a famous Hollywood actress's house. The couple finds themselves in over their heads when they realize they can't afford the full amount, and must come up with a plan to pay for the tour before embarrassing themselves in front of the actress. Elsewhere, Phil and Claire are at odds when Phil decides to buy a motorcycle against Claire's wishes, and Haley tries to help Alex get a date with her crush, but her meddling only makes things worse.
As the episode begins, the family is dealing with the aftermath of Stella's latest misadventure, which involved her breaking a valuable vase. Jay is at a loss for what to do with the dog, especially because he's not used to being told what to do by someone else. His decision to hire a dog trainer doesn't sit well with Gloria, who worries that Jay is trying to replace her as the dog's primary caregiver. Jay insists that he just wants the best for Stella, but Gloria is convinced that her love and attention are all the dog needs to behave. Conflict arises between the couple as they try to figure out the best way forward for Stella's training.
