At the start of Modern Family season 11 episode 4, titled "Pool Party," Phil invites the entire family to his new house for a pool party. He is excited to show off his brand new pool, which he and Mitch have been working on for some time now. Everyone in the family thinks it's a great idea and is eager to attend, but things get complicated when everyone starts bringing their own guests to the party.
Firstly, Jay brings his friend Javier, who is still getting over a nasty divorce and needs a distraction. Gloria is not thrilled about Javier's presence, as she has never been his biggest fan. She becomes even more unhappy when she learns that Javier has been flirting with her in the past, forcing Jay and Manny to team up and get him under control.
Meanwhile, Mitchell invites his old college friend, who may or may not have a crush on him. This leaves him feeling confused about his own sexuality, especially when his friend starts flirting with him during the party. Cam is not happy about this and feels left out of the conversation. He confides in Claire, who offers him some advice and reassures him that he is always going to be wanted by Mitchell, no matter what.
Elsewhere, Haley and Dylan argue over whether or not their newborn baby should be allowed in the pool. Dylan insists that the baby is too young, while Haley argues that she needs to get used to the water as soon as possible. The two continue to argue until they come up with a compromise that makes everyone happy.
As the party continues, Phil starts to realize that his pool may not be as perfect as he first thought. His attempts to impress everyone with his newly-installed pool lights and speakers fail miserably when they all malfunction. To make matters worse, one of the guests accidentally drops their cell phone in the pool, causing a commotion. Despite this setback, the party continues to go well, with everyone having a good time.
Towards the end of the episode, everyone gathers around the pool to enjoy the festive night lights and music. The family members begin to bond over Mexican food and margaritas, with everyone feeling grateful to be together. The night ends on a high note, with Phil finally understanding that it's not about having the perfect pool, but about spending quality time with family and loved ones.
Overall, Modern Family season 11 episode 4 is a fun and lighthearted episode that showcases the importance of family and the bond that comes with it. The characters are all given ample screen time and their respective storylines are well-developed. The pool party setting adds a fun and festive atmosphere, making it a great episode to watch with friends and family.
