In Mobile Suit Gundam 00 season 2 episode 8, titled "Pure Distortion," the focus is on Setsuna and his continued struggles with the past in the present. Setsuna comes face-to-face with an old friend, who is now piloting an A-Laws suit and seems to have become a pawn of the organization. This encounter forces Setsuna to reflect on his own role in the creation and perpetuation of conflict.

Meanwhile, Allelujah and Hallelujah are back together for the first time in what feels like ages. That sense of familiarity doesn’t last long, however, as Setsuna’s struggles begin to overshadow the smooth functioning of the team. The A-Laws’ actions are becoming increasingly aggressive, and the more they lean into their power, the more chaos they create. Trying to work from within the system doesn’t seem to be an option for the Gundam pilots anymore.

Against this backdrop of political turmoil, the team is faced with a new challenge in the form of a new Gundam model. Unlike the other models, this one isn’t piloted by a human at all – instead, it’s an autonomous mobile suit. The Gundam Meister pilots are faced with their toughest challenge yet as they struggle to take down this new, independent mobile suit.

As always, the animation in this episode is top-notch. The action sequences are thrilling and the designs of the mobile suits are eye-catching. This episode in particular takes full advantage of the animators’ talents – the fight scenes are some of the most intense and exciting of the series so far. Sound design is also a highlight; the music helps convey the sense of urgency and tension that permeates the episode.

But perhaps the most compelling aspect of this episode is the character development. Setsuna’s internal struggles are especially poignant here. The show has always been good at exploring the idea of identity and how our past experiences shape us, and this episode is no exception. Seeing Setsuna grapple with his own role in the violence and destruction around him is both heart-wrenching and insightful.

Similarly, Allelujah and Hallelujah’s reunion is a great moment for the characters. They’re two halves of the same person, and their chemistry is always entertaining to watch. This episode strikes a good balance between serious drama and playful banter, and the two characters are a big reason why the episode works so well.

Overall, Mobile Suit Gundam 00 season 2 episode 8 is a great addition to the series. It’s a tense, action-packed episode that also manages to delve into the characters’ motivations and histories. The animation and sound design are top-notch, making this one of the most visually stunning episodes of the series. Fans of the Gundam franchise will find a lot to love here – and those who are new to the series will find it easy to get hooked.
