Mo is a new comedy series streaming on Netflix that follows the life of Mo Najjar, a Palestinian refugee trying to navigate life in Texas. Mo immigrated to the United States when he was a young boy along with his family. Now as an adult, Mo is focused on achieving the American dream while still embracing his cultural roots.

The show centers around Mo's work at a museum gift shop in Houston, where he pursues his passion for selling and making people laugh. Outside of work, Mo spends time with his vibrant family including his overbearing mother Fatima, his wound-too-tight brother Yusuf, and his younger sister Maya. Family is everything to Mo and their close-knit dynamic provides much of the show's humor as their different personalities constantly clash.

At the heart of Mo is the push and pull Mo feels between his Palestinian heritage and his adopted home of Texas. This internal struggle leads to plenty of comedic cultural misunderstandings but also poignant moments as Mo works to honor both parts of his identity. Mo prides himself on being an excellent salesman who can sell anything to anyone, but he sometimes struggles to sell himself and find a sense of belonging.

The talented stand-up comedian and actor Mo Amer plays the semi-autobiographical lead role. With its focus on the everyday life of an immigrant family, the show provides a unique and humorous perspective on cross-cultural experiences in America. While the tensions Mo faces are relatable for many immigrants and children of immigrants, the show ultimately delivers more laughs than tears.

With its mix of hijinks-filled storylines and thoughtful cultural themes, Mo manages to both entertain and provide meaningful social commentary. The show's talented cast shines with excellent comedic timing and a relatable chemistry that brings this Arab-American family to life. After overcoming a long journey to make it to America, Mo's challenges now center around straddling two very different worlds in Texas. Mo invites audiences to root for this underdog as he chases his own American dream.
