Mission: Impossible is a popular action-adventure TV series that originally aired from September 1966 to March 1973. The show follows the missions of the Impossible Missions Force (IMF), a team of elite agents who are tasked with completing dangerous assignments around the world. The show stars Peter Graves as team leader Jim Phelps, and features a rotating cast of actors playing his team members.
Season 2 of Mission: Impossible opens with the episode "The Widow", which follows the IMF as they attempt to stop an international arms dealer named Janos Karq from selling stolen missiles to foreign countries. The team learns that Karq's business partner has died, leaving behind a grieving widow named Lisa (played by guest star Suzanne Pleshette).
The IMF devises a plan to infiltrate Karq's inner circle by convincing Lisa that her late husband had secretly been working for the IMF. They hope that Lisa will be able to provide them with information about Karq's operation, and ultimately help them bring him down.
Jim Phelps approaches Lisa and tells her that her husband was actually an undercover IMF agent, and that he was killed while trying to gather information on Karq. Lisa is understandably skeptical, but Phelps is able to provide her with enough evidence to convince her that he's telling the truth.
Lisa agrees to help the IMF, and her first task is to get close to Karq's right-hand man, a man named Blake. Lisa is a skilled actress, and is able to convince Blake that she has access to information that could be valuable to Karq. She arranges a meeting with Karq, and tells him that she has insider knowledge about a missing set of missile schematics that he has been searching for.
Karq is intrigued by Lisa's information, and he agrees to meet with her again. Lisa uses this opportunity to gather more information about Karq's operation, and she passes this information on to the IMF. The team uses this intel to stage a series of coordinated attacks on Karq's businesses and personnel.
Over the course of the episode, the IMF is able to thwart Karq's attempts to sell the stolen missiles, and they ultimately capture him and turn him over to the authorities. Lisa plays a critical role in the operation, and she is hailed as a hero by the IMF.
