Set in the 1960s, Mission: Impossible is a television series that follows the adventures of a team of highly skilled agents working for the Impossible Missions Force (IMF). In season 1 episode 4 titled "Old Man Out: Part 1," the IMF gets called in to help free an elderly man, Anton Cardinal, who has been taken prisoner by a brutal South American dictator, Presidente Enrico Guzman. Cardinal is a key member of the anti-Guzman resistance movement, and his contribution to the cause is vital. The IMF must free him before he is forced to reveal what he knows about the resistance.
The episode starts with Dan Briggs, the leader of the IMF team, getting briefed about the situation by the agency's chief. The chief provides Briggs with some background information about Cardinal, including his age, his medical history, and his importance to the resistance movement. The chief also informs Briggs that the IMF team will have to break Cardinal out of the prison where he is being held, as there are no legal means of freeing him.
Briggs assembles his team of agents, which includes Rollin Hand, Cinnamon Carter, and Barney Collier. The four of them make their way to the South American country where Cardinal is being held. Once there, they come up with a plan to get inside the prison and extract Cardinal. The plan involves Rollin Hand posing as a priest and gaining entry to the prison under the guise of administering last rites to the dying Cardinal.
Once inside, Rollin faces several challenges, including dealing with the suspicious guards and navigating around the prison. However, he manages to make contact with Cardinal and convinces him to cooperate with the IMF's plan. With Cardinal's help, the IMF team is able to arrange for his escape.
The episode sets up the story to be continued in the next episode, which is appropriately titled "Old Man Out: Part 2." It is clear that the IMF team's mission is far from over, and they have a lot more work to do to ensure that Cardinal is safely returned to his resistance movement. The episode is action-packed, with plenty of suspenseful moments to keep viewers on the edge of their seats. It also introduces us to the resourceful and creative ways that the IMF team goes about accomplishing their impossible missions.
