Ep 1. One

In the opening episode of season 2 of the popular British sci-fi series Misfits, we find our favourite group of juvenile delinquents hard at work in their community centre duties. While Nathan is busy trying to scam a couple visiting a parenting class for their money, Alisha is playing nurse to the sick and twisted Simon who has taken to emptying his nose over the entire centre. Curtis on the other hand is pining over his lost love Sam, and is desperate to turn back the clock and correct his past mistakes.

As if by fate, the strange storm that gave the gang their powers in the first season begins once again, causing the group to run for cover. During the chaos, the gang come across a figure on the rooftop nearby who is looking to take his own life after losing his job. Through a series of events, the group end up being gifted with this man's powers, with Simon receiving the power to warp time, Curtis given the power of gender-swapping, Alisha obtaining the skill of telepathy, and Nathan given the ability to interfere with electronics. Despite their initial skepticism and disagreement over how to use their powers, they soon find that they need to work together to face a new threat that emerges from the aftermath of the storm.

One of the biggest themes of this episode is the pain of identity, with Curtis's time travel powers stirring up old wounds and Simon's tendency to hide behind his superhero persona making it difficult for him to open up and live life to the full. However, the real surprise of the episode is the character of Rachel, played by Jessica Brown Findlay, who gives a brilliant performance as a new character with a shocking power that has deadly consequences. Her appearance will have fans gripped as they wonder what other surprises are in store for the gang this season.

Overall, Misfits season 2 episode 1 is a promising start to the new series, with a strong mix of humour, drama and sci-fi thrills to keep fans hooked. With new characters, sharper writing and some unexpected plot twists, One is a great episode to launch the next chapter in the lives of our wayward heroes.
