In season 1 episode 14 of Mike & Molly, titled "Molly Makes Soup," we find Molly home sick with the flu. Mike is taking on the responsibility of taking care of her, but doesn't know how to quite handle the situation. He's insensitive about Molly's suffering, brings home junk food and doesn't like the soup she made.
During Thanksgiving dinner with her family, Molly catches the flu from her sister Victoria. Mike feels guilty for not taking care of her the proper way, so he goes to Peggy for advice on how to make Molly feel better. Peggy advises Mike to cook Molly's favorite soup, "Italian Wedding Soup" to help her feel better. Mike, who is not the best cook in the world, takes on the task of making the soup himself.
Mike sets out to make the soup, but soon realizes he doesn't have all the necessary ingredients. Along with his buddy Carl, they make their way to the supermarket to get the ingredients, but come back with an array of unnecessary items. Meanwhile, Molly is bedridden and feeling increasingly miserable.
Mike continues with his soup making mission but is faced with multiple setbacks. His misadventures in the kitchen include burns, dropping a pot of soup, and even contaminating the soup with his own sneeze. With the help of Carl, he is able to make "Italian Wedding Soup," but it doesn't look or taste quite like Molly's.
Mike brings the soup to Molly in bed, but she's asleep. He leaves it on her bedside table and goes home. The next morning, he wakes to find he missed a call from Molly who tried the soup, but it made her worse.
Feeling like a failure, Mike reaches out for help from the ladies at the café where Molly works. He's given a recipe for homemade chicken soup that he makes with great care and attention to detail. He brings the soup to Molly and finally, she is happy, feels better, and is not miserable anymore.
"Molly Makes Soup" is a heartwarming episode about how Mike learns to take care of his sick girlfriend. The episode is full of comical moments, and ultimately teaches the viewers the importance of taking care of loved ones when they are unwell.
