In season 8 episode 1 of Midsomer Murders, titled "Things That Go Bump in the Night," the idyllic village of Fletcher's Cross is about to become the setting for a bizarre and disturbing series of events. As the locals gear up for the annual Harvest Fayre, strange occurrences begin to take place, leaving everyone on edge.
First, a scarecrow is found burned in a field, followed by the decapitation of a local farmer's favorite sheep. Soon after, a wealthy landowner becomes the next victim of an apparent supernatural force. With rumors of witches and ancient curses swirling around the village, Detective Chief Inspector Tom Barnaby and his new sidekick, Detective Sergeant Ben Jones, must sort fact from fiction and solve the case before another murder occurs.
As they delve deeper into the investigation, Barnaby and Jones discover a complex web of secrets and lies within the close-knit community. Everyone seems to be hiding something, from the old-fashioned vicar to the eccentric local historian. Even the Harvest Fayre committee members have their fair share of skeletons in the closet.
Meanwhile, Barnaby also has a personal issue to deal with, as his daughter's wedding is just around the corner and tensions are running high between him and his wife Joyce. Can he keep his cool and keep the investigation on track, or will his personal problems interfere with his work?
As the harvest festival draws closer and the supernatural occurrences continue, Barnaby and Jones race against the clock to catch the killer before they strike again. But with so many suspects and motives to sift through, will they be able to solve the case in time? "Things That Go Bump in the Night" is a classic Midsomer Murders episode, complete with stunning English countryside scenery, quirky characters, and plenty of twists and turns to keep viewers guessing until the very end.
