In the second episode of season 3 of Midsomer Murders, titled Blue Herrings, DCI Barnaby and his trusty sidekick Sergeant Gavin Troy are called to investigate a series of strange deaths in the village of Midsomer Parva. The episode opens with the celebration of a big fishing competition in the village, which leads to the discovery of the first body in a coffin floating on the river.
As the investigation begins, Barnaby and Troy soon discover that the victim was poisoned with hemlock and that the coffin was meant for someone else. Further complicating matters is the fact that two other villagers have recently died under suspicious circumstances, leading Barnaby and Troy to suspect that they may be dealing with a serial killer.
What follows is a twisted tale that involves feuding families, secret affairs, and plenty of red herrings (or, in this case, blue herrings). Throughout their investigation, Barnaby and Troy are forced to consider several suspects, including a greedy property developer, a wealthy wine merchant, and a local politician with a grudge.
As the bodies continue to pile up, the detectives race against the clock to catch the killer and prevent any more deaths. With the help of some quick thinking and a bit of luck, they eventually uncover the shocking truth behind the murders, leading to a dramatic conclusion that is sure to leave viewers on the edge of their seats.
As with all episodes of Midsomer Murders, Blue Herrings is full of colorful characters, stunning scenery, and plenty of twists and turns. Fans of the show will not be disappointed by this thrilling installment, which showcases the talents of stars John Nettles and Daniel Casey as they work to solve yet another complex and intriguing case.
