In the Midsomer village of Midsomer Mere, tensions are high as local residents prepare for an upcoming music festival. But when the event's headline act, The Hired Gun, is found brutally murdered in his hotel room, Detective Chief Inspector Tom Barnaby and Sergeant Ben Jones are called in to investigate.
As they begin to look into the murder, they discover that The Hired Gun was not as popular as he seemed, with several of his fellow musicians and crew members holding grudges against him for various reasons. Meanwhile, a dangerous ax-wielding madman is on the loose, attacking locals and leaving a trail of destruction in his wake.
Barnaby and Jones must navigate through the complicated web of music industry politics and personal grievances to catch the killer before he strikes again. With the help of forensic pathologist Dr. George Bullard and newly appointed Detective Constable Charlie Nelson, they uncover unexpected connections that lead them to a shocking conclusion.
As the festival draws closer, the detectives race against time to stop the ax-wielding madman and bring the killer to justice. But they soon realize that the killer may be closer than they think, and that they themselves may be in grave danger.
With its signature blend of intricate plotting, dark humor, and stunning landscapes, Midsomer Murders' "The Axeman Cometh" is a gripping episode that will keep viewers guessing until the very end.
