Ep 4. Chucky and Traitor

  • July 30, 2012

Mid Morning Matters with Alan Partridge is a British mockumentary sitcom featuring the fictional character Alan Partridge, played by Steve Coogan. The show follows Alan Partridge as he hosts his radio show "Mid Morning Matters" on North Norfolk Digital. In season 1 episode 4 titled "Chucky and Traitor," Alan talks about a range of topics with his co-host Sidekick Simon, including the history of Pacer trains and Alan's love for batteries.

The episode begins with Alan talking about the recent news of a man who was caught peeing in a reservoir. He struggles to understand why people would pee in a body of water and wonders if the man had any dignity. As the show progresses, Alan invites a number of guests to come on air. The first of whom is a local resident called Chucky, who Alan has met at a recent book signing event.

Chucky seems to be a bit of an oddball, and he admits to Alan that he has a strange compulsion to touch people's noses. Alan finds this behavior bizarre and decides to test Chucky by pointing out people with large noses. When Chucky fails to touch some of them, Alan begins to doubt the validity of his claim. He concludes that Chucky may not be entirely truthful and decides to end the interview prematurely.

Alan then shifts his focus to Sidekick Simon, who he accuses of being a traitor. Alan is convinced that Simon has been sharing his personal information with other radio presenters. He becomes increasingly paranoid and starts to question Simon about his loyalty. Simon denies any wrongdoing and begins to feel uncomfortable with Alan's accusations.

Throughout the episode, Alan continues to share his thoughts on a variety of topics, including his love for batteries, his disdain for the band Level 42, and his belief that the Chinese invented the umbrella. He also receives a call from a listener who claims to have spotted a UFO in the local area. Alan seems skeptical but entertains the possibility, reminding the listener to always keep an open mind.

As the show draws to a close, Alan reflects on his day and seems to be feeling more positive. He thanks his listeners for tuning in and reminds them that he will be back on air the following day. He bids farewell to Sidekick Simon and signs off with his signature catchphrase, "Keep it Partridge."

Overall, "Chucky and Traitor" is a lighthearted and humorous episode that showcases Alan Partridge's witty banter and quirky personality. The show's format is reminiscent of a real mid-morning radio show, making it easy for viewers to feel a sense of familiarity with the setting. With its well-written script and clever jokes, "Mid Morning Matters" is a must-watch for anyone looking for a good laugh.
