The episode "The Unwanted Roommate" in the third season of Mia and Me begins as Mia starts to develop new magical abilities, such as being able to "see" through walls with her unicorn horn. However, her newfound powers also come with a downside; she inadvertently sees that Lyria and Onchao, her fairy and unicorn friends, are hiding a secret from her. When she finally confronts them, they confess that they have been hiding a tiny, timid rat named "Caramel" in the palace for fear that he would be eaten by Gargona, the evil pantherine who is always on their tails.
At first, Mia is hesitant to accept the addition of a new "roommate," especially one as small and insignificant as a rat. However, as Caramel starts to make himself at home in the palace, she begins to change her mind. Caramel is adorable, and Mia can't help but feel sorry for him, knowing that he was unwanted and unloved before he came to the palace. She starts to teach him some tricks, such as how to climb walls and how to avoid being caught by Gargona. Caramel quickly proves himself to be a valuable addition to the team, playing a major role in their mission to thwart Gargona's latest scheme.
Things come to a head when Gargona finally makes her move, attempting to capture Caramel and turn him over to the evil queen Panthea. Mia and her friends launch an elaborate plan to rescue him, with Caramel playing a crucial role in distracting Gargona long enough for them to slip by unnoticed. In the end, they are successful in rescuing Caramel, and Mia realizes that she has grown to care for the little rat much more than she ever thought she would.
"The Unwanted Roommate" is a heartwarming episode of Mia and Me that teaches the importance of kindness and compassion, even to those who seem insignificant or unwanted.
