The movie is set in the 16th century and takes place in Japan, during the period of feudalism.

Kunoichi was born into a family of ninjas, and has trained since childhood to become one of the most lethal assassins in all of Japan. When her father falls ill and cannot provide for the family, Kunoichi is forced to take matters into her own hands and use her ninja skills to earn a living. As the story progresses, Kunoichi is aided by another ninja, who offers to help her fight against the daimyo.
