Ep 11. A Promise Broken
- September 30, 1992
As much as people try to keep promises, there are times that circumstances can get in the way. This is something that is tackled in Melrose Place season 1 episode 11, titled "A Promise Broken".
The episode focuses on Alison, who is struggling to balance her work and personal life. She has made a promise to one of her co-workers that she would help out with their project, but things took a different turn when Allison's romantic interest, Billy, unexpectedly shows up at her apartment. The two get into a heated argument when Alison tells him that she can't go out with him because of work.
Throughout the episode, Allison tries to keep her promise while also trying to cultivate her personal relationships. But just as she thought things couldn't get any worse, the person she made the promise to tells her that she is no longer needed for the project. This leaves Allison feeling lost and heartbroken because in some ways, she feels like a promise has been broken.
Meanwhile, Amanda is in her usual scheming ways. She plans a party at her apartment and invites everyone she knows, including Alison's nemesis, Jane. During the party, tensions rise as Amanda's guests start to cause chaos. Among them is Jake, who takes it upon himself to break into Amanda's room, in hopes of finding incriminating evidence against her.
As the night progresses, the party gets wilder and more out of hand, with some guests passing out and others engaging in drug use. Billy shows up at the party, but he and Allison have yet another argument. Jake, who seems to fancy Allison, takes this as an opportunity to step in and defend her. He ends up accusing Billy of causing trouble and this leads to a physical altercation.
The episode ends with everyone going their separate ways, with the aftermath of the party left in shambles. Amanda continues with her scheming ways, while Allison tries to deal with the repercussions of not keeping her promise. The episode serves to highlight the way in which promises and personal relationships can be tested, especially when work and personal life collide. It also shows how Amanda's manipulative ways can lead to chaos and destruction, leaving those around her to pick up the pieces.
Overall, "A Promise Broken" is a thought-provoking episode that explores some of the complexities of human relationships. It serves as a reminder that promises are important, but they are not everything. The episode also has its fair share of drama and chaos, which makes it an entertaining watch.
