Allison's latest case takes her in an unexpected direction in "Ghost in the Machine," the fifth episode of Medium's third season. After waking up from a dream about a car accident, she takes her daughter to school only to witness that same crash happen in real life. The victim of the accident, a single father who was en route to dropping his daughter off at school, appears to be communicating with Allison after his death.
As Allison investigates the case further, she discovers that the father, who had been working on a top-secret government project related to artificial intelligence, had been killed in order to prevent him from leaking sensitive information. Using her abilities to communicate with the dead, Allison teams up with the ghost to try and uncover the truth surrounding his death and bring his killer to justice.
Meanwhile, at home, Allison is struggling with her relationship with her hubby Joe. After a particularly heated argument, Joe turns to his mother-in-law for support and advice, creating tension between him and Allison.
As always, Medium delivers a solid mix of supernatural intrigue, crime solving, and family drama in "Ghost in the Machine." With a unique spin on a classic genre trope and a continued focus on character development, this episode is sure to keep fans of the series engaged and entertained.
