Allison Dubois, a psychic who communicates with the dead, is the main character of the supernatural drama show Medium. In the third season's sixteenth episode entitled "Whatever Possessed You," Allison and her family deal with various paranormal issues.
Allison is busy with two different cases this episode. First, she works with Detective Lee Scanlon to solve a murder involving a high school student. They find out that the victim, a straight-A student, had secrets that her parents never knew about. As Allison dives deeper into the case, she starts to connect with the victim's ghost, who leads her to a possible suspect.
Meanwhile, Allison's eldest daughter, Ariel, expresses her interest in attending college in Boston, which her family disagrees with. Allison is hurt by her family's lack of support, but she eventually comes to terms with the idea of letting go of her daughter. Ariel ends up making a shocking decision that leaves her mother both surprised and worried.
Allison's second case involves a woman named Carol, who claims that she is being possessed by her ex-husband's ghost. Carol's behavior changes drastically, and her family is left wondering if she is mentally unstable. Allison is skeptical of Carol's claims at first, but she starts to believe that something paranormal is occurring after hearing Carol's ex-husband's voice through a phone call.
Allison consults a Catholic priest, who believes that Carol's ex-husband's ghost is indeed possessing her. The priest performs an exorcism, and Allison lends her psychic abilities to help expel the ghost. The exorcism is successful, and Carol is freed from the possession, but Allison is left shaken by the experience.
Throughout the episode, Allison struggles with the idea of letting her daughter go to college. She's worried about Ariel's safety and the distance, but she ultimately realizes that Ariel is growing up and that she has to let her make her own choices.
Allison's husband, Joe, is also dealing with his own issues. He's been fired from his job, and he's struggling to find a new one. Joe turns to his old friend, Larry, for help, and Larry offers him a chance to invest in a new invention. Joe's skepticism and Allison's psychic visions complicate their decision to invest in the invention.
The episode ends with Allison finally accepting Ariel's decision to go to college and Joe deciding to invest in the invention. However, a new vision from Allison reveals a shocking truth that could change everything.
Overall, "Whatever Possessed You" is a gripping episode of Medium that combines supernatural elements with a family drama. The twists and turns of the multiple plotlines keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end.
