Despite not having any formal training, Kazu's natural talent helps him pass the academy's entrance exams. He's assigned to Team Cerberus alongside teammates Abel, Ryo, and Vee. Under the guidance of their veteran instructor Lt. Rivera, the four cadets must learn to work together as a cohesive unit to master their specialized roles aboard the mech. While Abel is the strategist, Ryo handles weapons systems, and Vee is in charge of navigation. Kazu serves as the pilot who directly controls the mech's movements.

In between training simulations and lessons, the cadets also have to balance their schoolwork, friendships, and rivalries at Kepler. Kazu takes an immediate liking to Mei, a brilliant engineer who helps optimize his mech. Meanwhile, Aria seems intent on asserting her dominance over Kazu and proving she's the top cadet.

As they gain experience, Team Cerberus starts competing in the Mech Combat Cup, which pits academy squads against each other. During an early match, Kazu makes a critical mistake that almost gets his teammates injured. He has to learn to trust their skills and stop trying to win the battles alone. Later in the season, the stakes are raised when the cadets have to work together to fend off a threat to the academy.

With vivid animation and an emphasis on teamwork, competition, and overcoming adversity, Mech Cadets promises to be an exciting ride. The blend of school drama and giant robot action makes this show perfect for viewers who grew up on series like Gundam Wing and Voltron.
