McHale's Navy season 3 episode 7 is titled "Will the Alligator Take the Stand?" and follows Lieutenant Commander Quinton McHale and his mischievous crew stationed on a Navy PT boat in the South Pacific during World War II.
The episode begins with the arrival of a new member to the crew - an alligator named Albert. The crew is immediately skeptical of Albert's usefulness on the boat, but McHale insists that he has connections with the higher-ups and that Albert is there to help with a secret mission. Meanwhile, Binghamton is furious about the appearance of the alligator and is determined to get him off the boat.
As the crew sets out on their mission to transport a group of stranded nurses to safety, Albert goes missing. The crew quickly realizes that he has fallen overboard and is swimming in the ocean. When they finally locate him, they find that Albert has swallowed a key that holds important information for their mission. With no other options, McHale decides to take Albert to court and have him testify about the key.
The trial proves to be chaotic and ridiculous, with McHale and Binghamton acting as the prosecution and defense, respectively. The crew each takes turns on the witness stand, testifying about their experiences with Albert and trying to prove whether or not he intentionally swallowed the key. However, things take a turn for the worse when one of the nurses accuses Albert of biting her while she was trying to retrieve the key from his stomach.
Despite the evidence stacking up against Albert, McHale remains convinced of his innocence and is determined to find a way to clear his name. With the help of the crew, McHale devises a plan to catch the real culprit responsible for biting the nurse and frame Albert. In the end, the plan is successful, and Albert is acquitted of all charges.
As the episode comes to a close, the crew continues their mission to transport the nurses to safety, with a new appreciation for their unorthodox crew member. Although they may not fully understand the purpose of Albert's presence on the boat, they realize that he proved to be a valuable member of the team and that they wouldn't want to go into battle without him.
