The Solid Gold Swingers picks up with McCloud, a rugged and savvy law enforcement officer from Taos, New Mexico, arriving in the bustling city of New York on a mission to help solve a major theft case involving a one-of-a-kind solid gold statue called 'The Swingers'. The statue is a symbol of the city's burgeoning disco scene and is housed at a luxury hotel in Manhattan.
McCloud meets with his contact in the local police department, Lieutenant Joe Broadhurst, who he collaborates with to investigate the theft. The two quickly discover that the golden statue was stolen by a group of thieves who had planned the heist for months, leaving no trace of evidence behind. They also discover that the thieves have hidden the statue somewhere in the city and plan to sell it on the black market.
McCloud and Broadhurst follow a lead that takes them to a swanky disco club where they encounter a group of affluent partygoers, including a shady businessman named Harry Fender. Fender claims to be clueless about the stolen statue, but McCloud and Broadhurst are skeptical of his story. They decide to dig deeper into Fender's background to determine if he has any ties to the criminal underworld.
While conducting their investigation, McCloud comes across Gloria, a beautiful and mysterious woman who works as a singer at the disco club. Gloria catches McCloud's eye and he becomes smitten with her, but he remains focused on the task at hand.
As the investigation continues, McCloud and Broadhurst visit several other potential suspects, including a streetwise fence who operates out of a pawn shop. They also visit a wealthy businessman who is known to have connections to the criminal underworld. However, none of their leads pan out.
In the final act of the episode, McCloud's instincts lead him back to the disco club where he encounters Gloria once more. After a close call with the thieves, McCloud realizes that Gloria is actually an undercover police officer who has been working with Broadhurst to crack the case. Together, the group sets a trap for the thieves and successfully retrieves the solid gold statue.
The episode concludes with McCloud saying goodbye to Gloria and returning to Taos, content in knowing that justice has been served.
