McCloud season 2 episode 7, titled "Give My Regrets to Broadway," follows Deputy Marshal Sam McCloud as he goes undercover to investigate the murder of a Broadway producer.
The episode begins with McCloud and his partner, Sergeant Joe Broadhurst, being called to investigate the murder of Broadway producer Harry Castle. Castle was shot outside of his theater, and the killer is still on the loose. As they begin their investigation, they discover that the case is more complicated than they initially thought.
The first suspect they interview is Castle's ex-wife, Mildred. She had just finished a messy divorce with Castle and had been arguing with him earlier in the night. However, after questioning her, McCloud and Broadhurst conclude that she is not the killer.
Their next suspect is the leading lady of Castle's current production, Angela Carr. Carr had been having an affair with Castle and was angry that he was going to drop her from the production. However, she also had an alibi for the time of the murder.
As McCloud delves further into the case, he discovers that Castle had a lot of enemies in the theater world. He had been involved in a long-standing feud with another producer, Jerry Marcus. Marcus is initially hesitant to talk to McCloud, but he eventually reveals that he and Castle had a falling out over a recent production.
Despite the numerous suspects, McCloud is unable to find any concrete evidence linking them to the murder. However, he does receive a tip from a former actress in one of Castle's productions. She tells him that she overheard a conversation in a dressing room that suggests the killer may be a member of the show's crew.
McCloud decides to go undercover as a member of the crew to try and flush out the killer. He takes on the persona of a scenery painter named Sam Greenbaum and quickly befriends the other crew members. He begins to suspect that one of them, a sound technician named Frank, may be the killer.
As McCloud continues to investigate, he discovers that Frank had a motive for killing Castle. Frank's brother had been an aspiring actor who worked with Castle, but he died in a tragic accident on stage during one of Castle's productions. Frank blames Castle for his brother's death and decided to seek revenge.
The episode culminates in a tense confrontation between McCloud and Frank. McCloud is able to outsmart Frank and apprehend him before he can kill anyone else.
