In Masterpiece's season 44, episode 3 titled "Downton Abbey Season 4, Episode 3," viewers are transported back to the elegant and tumultuous world of the British aristocracy in the early 20th century. The episode follows the ongoing struggles of the Crawley family and their staff at Downton Abbey.

At the heart of this episode is Lady Mary's grief over the loss of her husband, Matthew. Despite the passage of several months, Mary is still consumed by her sadness and struggling to find a way to move on. Her parents and siblings are at a loss as to how to help her, and her interactions with her young son, George, are awkward and strained.

Meanwhile, Lady Edith is grappling with her own problems. She has become deeply involved with a married man, Michael Gregson, and is torn between her love for him and her sense of propriety.
