In episode 14 of MasterChef Australia season 1, two of the top contestants, Brent and Boetz, go head-to-head in the most intense cook-off of the season so far. The challenge involves preparing a three-course menu for some of Australia's most distinguished chefs, including Guillaume Brahimi and Kylie Kwong.
First up, the contestants have to prepare an entrée using just one ingredient - crab. Brent opts for a crab ravioli with lemongrass and chilli, while Boetz serves up a crab and cucumber salad with an avocado and wasabi dressing. The dishes are judged on taste, presentation, and innovation, and it's a close call as to which dish comes out on top.
For the main course, the contestants have to create a dish inspired by one of the celebrity chef judges. Brent chooses to cook a dish inspired by Shannon Bennett, recreating an intricate dish of quail, onion soubise, and confit garlic. Boetz, on the other hand, opts for a dish inspired by Guillaume Brahimi, serving up a classic French dish of duck confit with potato and celeriac puree. Both dishes wow the judges, but only one of the contestants can come out on top.
Finally, for dessert, the contestants must create a dish featuring chocolate as the star ingredient. Brent decides to create a chocolate fondant with raspberry sorbet, while Boetz creates a dish inspired by Adriano Zumbo - a chocolate delice with hazelnut praline and salted caramel sauce. Again, both dishes are impressive, but the judges must decide which one is the best.
Overall, it's an incredibly close cook-off between the two contestants, with both Brent and Boetz proving that they have what it takes to go all the way in the competition. But who will come out on top and secure their place in the next round of the competition? Tune in to find out!
