In M*A*S*H season 1 episode 14 titled "Love Story," the doctors and nurses of the 4077th are introduced to a new patient, Private Loudon Wainwright III (G.W. Bailey), who has been suffering from battle fatigue. During his stay at the hospital, he becomes smitten with Nurse Baker (Patricia Stevens), but their romance is short-lived when he is discharged and sent back to the front lines.
Meanwhile, Hawkeye (Alan Alda) and Trapper (Wayne Rogers) are dealing with their own love troubles. Hawkeye is trying to charm Nurse Cutler (Marcia Strassman) while Trapper is having a heated argument with his wife on the phone.
The episode also features a hilarious subplot involving Klinger (Jamie Farr) and his attempts to get a Section 8 discharge. In order to do so, he wears an outrageous outfit every day and performs various stunts to convince the doctors he is mentally unstable.
As always, the episode is filled with witty banter and poignant moments as the characters grapple with the reality of war and the fleeting nature of love. "Love Story" is a classic episode of M*A*S*H that showcases the show's unique blend of humor and heart.
