Hawkeye and Trapper are thrilled when beautiful nurse Edwina "Eddie" Ferguson (Marcia Strassman) arrives at the 4077th. Their excitement quickly fades, however, when they learn that Eddie is a religious zealot with no interest in men, other than as friends. To make matters worse, Eddie is a strict enforcer of Army regulations and has a tendency to write up anyone who fails to follow them. Despite all this, Hawkeye and Trapper find themselves smitten with Eddie and determine to win her over.
Meanwhile, Colonel Blake deals with a series of increasingly ridiculous requests from the Army brass, including a demand for a "corpsman pool" and a request to send a supply of bubble bath to the front lines. To keep his sanity, Blake turns to Radar for support and together they hatch a plan to get revenge on the Army by filling a requisition order with ridiculous items of their own.
Back at the camp, Eddie causes chaos by insisting on enforcing every minor regulation and writing up everyone who fails to comply. Even Father Mulcahy is not immune from her scrutiny, as she refuses to let him serve mass without a liturgical stole. Hawkeye and Trapper try various plans to get Eddie to lighten up, including inviting her to a party and trying to convince her to participate in a beauty pageant, but all their efforts are rebuffed.
Finally, Hawkeye convinces Eddie to join him and Trapper on a house call to visit a sick soldier. During the visit, Eddie begins to see the human side of Hawkeye and Trapper, and they in turn come to appreciate her dedication to her religion and her duty as a nurse. As they return to the camp, Eddie reveals a softer side and admits that she has never been able to find a man who understood her devotion to God. Hawkeye and Trapper exchange a meaningful look, realizing that they are not the right men for her.
In the end, Colonel Blake and Radar's plan for revenge backfires, resulting in a visit from a high-ranking general who is not amused by their antics. As they prepare to face the consequences, Eddie surprises everyone by speaking up on their behalf, using her position as a nurse to vouch for their integrity and professionalism. With the crisis averted, Eddie prepares to leave the 4077th, leaving Hawkeye and Trapper with a newfound respect for religious faith and the importance of duty.
