Martha Speaks is a show about a talking dog named Martha who gains the ability to speak after eating alphabet soup. In season 4 episode 6, titled "Martha and the One Thousand Fleas/Nice and Crabby," Martha encounters two separate adventures.
In the first half of the episode, "Martha and the One Thousand Fleas," Martha discovers that she has fleas and gets worried that she may be infecting her dog friends. She seeks medical advice from her veterinarian, but the vet is too busy to give her the attention she needs. Martha then turns to her human family for help, but their flea treatments do not seem to work. Desperate for a solution, Martha turns to her feline nemesis, Nellie, for advice. Nellie tells Martha that she needs to clear her mind and try to think like a flea. With this advice, Martha discovers that her veterinarian carries a special flea collar that can get rid of the fleas. She rushes to the veterinary clinic and convinces the vet to give her the collar. After putting on the collar, Martha is relieved of her flea problem, and she returns back to her normal cheerful self.
In the second half of the episode, "Nice and Crabby," Martha comes across a grumpy crab who doesn't like anyone or anything. No matter how much Martha tries to befriend the crab, he remains cranky and dismissive. Martha is confused by the crab's behavior and seeks advice from her friends, but no one seems to know what to do about the crab's attitude. Finally, Martha comes across a wise old lobster who tells her that the crab had a bad experience with a human and hasn't been able to trust anyone ever since. Following the lobster's advice, Martha decides to show the crab some kindness and bring him a tasty treat. The crab is initially skeptical, but after seeing the kindness in Martha's eyes, he eventually warms up to her and decides to give her a chance. Through her kindness and understanding, Martha teaches the crab an important lesson about forgiveness and trust.
Overall, "Martha and the One Thousand Fleas/Nice and Crabby" provides a heartwarming and entertaining half-hour of television for children and families.
