- March 20, 2009
Martha Speaks season 3 episode 18, titled "Martha's Dirty Habit/Helen's All Thumbs," takes the audience on two fun-filled adventures. In the first half, "Martha's Dirty Habit," Martha develops a new habit of digging in the garden, leaving her paws and snout completely dirty. Helen tries to help Martha break the habit by distracting her with other activities, but nothing seems to work.
As Martha's digging habit becomes more and more out of control, Helen and the rest of the gang try to find a solution. With the help of a dog trainer, they come up with a plan to redirect Martha's energy towards something positive and productive. The gang teaches Martha how to help out in the garden by planting and watering flowers, allowing her to still enjoy the backyard while keeping clean.
In the second half, "Helen's All Thumbs," Helen discovers that she has a knack for playing video games. However, her enthusiasm for gaming takes a turn for the worse when she becomes addicted and neglects her responsibilities. She misses school, forgets her chores, and even loses her cherished librarian job because she spends all her time gaming.
After realizing the impact her gaming addiction has on her life, Helen decides to take action. She enlists the help of her friends and family to wean herself off the games and focus on her responsibilities. With their encouragement and support, Helen is able to strike a balance between her love for gaming and her obligations.
Overall, "Martha's Dirty Habit/Helen's All Thumbs" highlights the importance of balance and self-control in everyday life. Through Martha and Helen's experiences, the audience is reminded that it's okay to enjoy hobbies, but it's essential to prioritize responsibilities and stay focused on what truly matters.
