Martha Speaks is a children's television show that follows the adventures of a talking dog named Martha. In season 2 episode 14, Martha and the One Thousand Fleas / Nice and Crabby, Martha finds herself with an infestation of fleas, and the family must figure out how to get rid of them.
The episode begins with Martha feeling itchy, and soon she discovers that she has a ton of fleas living in her fur. The family tries everything to get rid of them, from flea shampoo to a flea collar, but nothing seems to work. They even try a homemade flea spray, but that just makes Martha smell bad and doesn't get rid of the fleas.
As Martha struggles with the fleas, she also has to deal with being nice to a new crab friend. The crab, who calls herself Crabcakes, is very grumpy and doesn't want to do anything except complain. Martha tries to be friendly and get Crabcakes to join in on the fun, but she just can't seem to crack the crab's hard exterior.
Meanwhile, the fleas continue to multiply, and Martha's itching becomes unbearable. The family finally decides to take Martha to the vet, where they learn that there are actually one thousand fleas living on her! The vet gives them a special flea comb and tells them to comb Martha's fur every day until the fleas are gone.
Back at home, Martha's family starts the long process of combing out all of the fleas. It's a tedious job, but they are determined to get rid of them. As they work, Crabcakes continues to complain, making it harder for Martha to stay patient with her.
Finally, after many days of combing and cleaning, all of the fleas are gone! Martha is no longer itchy, and she's back to her energetic self. And even better, she's managed to earn Crabcakes' friendship by being patient and understanding.
In the end, Martha learns the importance of perseverance and patience, even when faced with grumpy crab friends and one thousand fleas. The episode ends with Martha and Crabcakes playing happily together, and Martha's family happily flea-free.
