Martha Speaks season 2 episode 12 includes two adventures for the talking dog Martha and her owners. In the first half of the episode titled "Martha Plays Favorites," Martha's pet cat, G.G., accuses Martha of playing favorites with their owner, Helen. G.G. believes that Martha gets special treatment and makes all the decisions for Helen, unlike what G.G. has to endure. A concerned Martha decides that the best way to respond to the accusation is to prove G.G. wrong.
Martha conducts an experiment to evaluate whether she is genuinely playing favorites. She tries to treat everyone equally, giving G.G. more attention, pampering, and making all the decisions. This makes G.G even more suspicious and fearful that Helen will now stop serving her favorite foods. Things begin to escalate between the two pets, and they start arguing. However, during the conflict, they meet a young cat who expands their idea of how they should look at each other's species.
In the second half of the episode titled "Martha and the Doggie Lover," Martha and her friend Skits help the new vet, Dr. Truman, with his work. Dr. Truman is a lover of dogs and enjoys helping them. He is in the city for a short time, taking care of sick dogs from the animal shelter. However, when they stumble upon Truman's possessions, they find a box with strange dog toys in it. They realize that Dr. Truman has a favorite dog back home and he misses his pet.
Martha and Skits decide to surprise Dr. Truman and find his dog for him. They collaborate with the animal shelter to track down the missing dog, named Star. They use all their dog skills and instincts to rescue the dog from a bell tower, and soon Dr. Truman is reunited with his pet.
