Al Bundy is the head of a working-class family consisting of his wife, Peggy, and their two children, Kelly and Bud. They live in a suburban neighborhood in Chicago, and Al works at a women's shoe store while Peggy spends her days at home. In this episode, the family decides to have a yard sale in order to make some extra money.
The episode opens with Peggy and Kelly organizing items to sell, while Al and Bud argue about the value of certain items. Al is convinced that an old record player is worth a lot of money, but Bud insists that no one will pay more than a dollar for it. Meanwhile, Peggy is trying to get rid of some of her old clothes and shoes, but Kelly thinks they are still stylish and wants to keep them.
As the family sets up the yard sale, they attract a variety of customers, from bargain hunters to weirdos. One man is particularly interested in a pair of Peggy's old shoes, leading Al to question his intentions. Another customer is a mysterious woman who takes an interest in one of the family's old books. Al tries to flirt with her, but she is clearly not interested.
As the day goes on, the family starts to bicker over the prices of certain items. Kelly and Peggy are willing to let things go for cheap, but Al is determined to get top dollar. When a man offers him five dollars for the record player, Al is insulted and demands more. Meanwhile, Bud realizes that his mistake in underestimating the value of the player has cost his family a sale.
Throughout the day, the family has a series of misadventures with the yard sale customers. Al gets into a fight with a man over the price of a lawn mower and ends up throwing it out into the street. Peggy tries to sell a lamp that doesn't work, and when a customer calls her out on it, she pretends that she's selling it as a "conversation piece." Kelly tries to sell some of her own clothes, but gets frustrated when everyone only wants to buy Peggy's.
As the day wears on, the family becomes increasingly exhausted and disheartened. They have barely made any money, and Al is convinced that the record player is cursed. Just when it seems like they are about to give up, however, something unexpected happens.
A man shows up at the yard sale with a suitcase full of rare coins. Al is skeptical at first, but when the man offers to trade the coins for the record player, he starts to get excited. The family huddles around as the coins are counted, and they are thrilled to find that they are worth a small fortune. With the yard sale a success, the Bundys celebrate with a pizza dinner and a round of high fives.
As the episode comes to a close, the family reflects on the lessons they've learned from the yard sale. Al admits that he was wrong to be so stubborn about the prices, and Peggy realizes that it's okay to let go of some of her old possessions. Kelly is proud of herself for making a few sales, and Bud vows to never underestimate the value of an item again. In the end, the family is happy and content, having made some extra money and learned a little something about themselves along the way.
